Cereal Box

Objective

The cereal box had to target a certain demographic, or marketing audience. This can be any demographic we wanted and we had to have the name and type of the cereal, which needed to appeal to the targeted demographic. The cereal Icon, or character, including the character’s “story” and personality, had to appeal to the targeted demographic and the “look” of the cereal packaging including color scheme, typefaces, layout, etc. We had to create the overall concept and design of the packaging, including all content and artwork on all panels, this includes any required ingredients, legal copy, barcodes, contact information, etc. The back of the box had to contain a game that is part of a contest that people can enter. The game had to be something that can be done on the spot, using materials supplied on the back of the box as well as inside the box. The results of the game would then become part of a larger contest held online, possibly through social media. On another side of the box it needed to contain a story about the cereals character.

Solution

I chose to focus my demographic on ages 16 to young and mid 20’s. I chose to do my cereal box on the story of the Greek story of the Odyssey and the main character was the cyclops who gets punctured in the eye in the original story. In my story he gets his revenge on the men and instead the cereal is the Odyssean men screaming for their lives as the cyclops chomps them up in a nice tasty cereal bowl. On the back of the cereal box, the cyclops is chasing the Odyssean men and it leads you to a very detailed complicated maze that I personally created myself and built in Illustrator. Its meant to be a challenging maze meant for adults and it takes you through the rest of the Odyssey adventures after the Cyclops Island, leading you to the end of the story which ends in Ithaca.

The game was you do the maze, show your work and then scan the bar code and it’ll lead you to a competition where you get thrown into a raffle for a chance to win a year of free Cyclops Chomp!
