Typography Booklet
Objective
The project was to design and produce a four page typographic promotional brochure. The format is 16" x 10" flat, 8" x 10" finished size, folded in half to produce a four page booklet. We were given a list of type families that are available in the classroom computers, to use as the main subject. We had to research the historical background of the typeface as well as the type designer and the styles of design during that timeframe.
Solution
I chose Centaur for my typeface because I thought it was super interesting how it was originally inspired off of a font from the 1400s, and then Bruce Rogers found it and redesigned it, publishing it in 1914 which was also the start of WW1. I chose orange as the color theme for it becuase it gives off a retro old age look, almost of rust. I also really liked the hues it gave the images. I tried playing with the layout, we had to present all uppercase and lower case letters, so I wanted to find a way to make them interactive with the booklet while also showcasing the letters and numbers. I had a lot of fun putting the uppercase "I" on the second page and the uppercase "F" on the first, acting as borders to the pictures.
